Crawl Space Radon
Radon systems designed for dirt-floor crawl spaces and mixed foundations.
A crawl space with an exposed dirt floor gives radon an open path into the air under your floors, and from there into the house. There's no slab to drill through, so a different design is needed.
The usual answer is sub-membrane depressurization. We cover the soil with a heavy, durable plastic membrane, seal the seams and fasten the edges to the foundation walls and piers. A pipe and fan then pull from under the membrane and vent the gas above the roof.
Older Boulder homes, mountain cabins and houses with additions often have crawl spaces. Sealing the floor also cuts down on moisture, dust and that musty crawl space smell, which many homeowners notice within days. Call (983) 200-7452 for a free estimate.

More material and sealing than a slab system, which is why it costs more.
Thick plastic sheeting laid across the entire dirt floor.
Overlaps taped and sealed, edges attached to walls and piers.
A pipe and fan draw soil gas from beneath the sheet.
A crawl space next to a basement or slab is often tied into one system and one fan.
| Situation | Typical Range |
|---|---|
| Crawl space only | $2,000 – $3,000 |
| Crawl space plus basement or slab | $2,200 – $4,000 |

Heavier membranes stand up to storage and the occasional trip in for repairs.
The same barrier that blocks radon also keeps soil moisture down.
